i think this song is about how america seems to have a cure for everything, and the narrator hasn't thought too much about dying, or otherwise being ailed by some disease before, he hasn't felt this way, but in being bombarded by all the advertisements for different pills in combination with the news broadcasting more reasons to worry about dying of cancer or some other disease, it suddenly seems "real" to him... so he just wants to be cured of something he has been convinced he has... this is how i percieve the song.
