Black Eyed Dog is a Nick Drake song that I've never heard, but I like Gomez's version of it, and it melts nicely into Free to Run. From what I can tell the black eyed dog is depression or death.

Free to Run is one of my favorite Gomez songs, it makes me think of lost hot tub summer nights outdoors all high and shit. I think it's about the choice between living like squatter or conforming to an occupation. Other people seem to think it is about slowing down and enjoying life, which may be true, but that's not what I think of when I hear it. Though it does fill me with melancholy of my care-free days of daily smoke-outs where I was REALLY slowed down, it makes me shiver with delight at the fact I can run away from home, but chose to accept my problems and life as it is in a conventional manner. Sort of.
