Basically, well I think, the song is apparently about someone apologizing to someone and expecting an apology back, and the "speaker" is waiting for this apology..hence "so now we sit around staring at the walls"... and also this line is showing the akwardness while expecting an apology.. That is my opionion, but then again alot of songs have double meanings.
