They want to be the first ones to discover love. (we must be the first ones in the world to fall off the earth) kind of how before, people thought the world was flat and that they'd fall off before columbus discovered that it was round. Yeah.
It's not working out, his needs are being fulfilled. They will be in love as soon as they get what they want (We could be... soon as our needs are fed) but he thinks that she'll have her heart broken if she gives into him (You'll give in to me and the whole heartache). It will make him feel worthy that someone
would get hurt by him becayse they actually care what he thinks/feels ( Makes me feel alive) but those are just thoughts of his, but it ends up somewhat working out ( you always knew we make it all the way in)
But in the end, it gets boring, it should be fun, but he feels empty (The carnival's empty)
