What an incredible song. Hendrix hated his hometown...hate his high school....hated the people who he felt thought he wouldn't amount to anything. So he writes the fantasy song. He leaves the town to get away and when he comes back he will be a big star and rich enough to buy the town and show everyone.
This happened in a sort of way. Jimi never graduated from high school. (He got in trouble and joined the army.) The school always viewed him a useless. But when he was a big star, his high school invited him back to give a speech to the school and they billed him as "a distinguished former student." It made Jimi laugh in disbelief.
