Lyric discussion by Regos the Sane

Since this song comes straight after Immortality on the album, I think it could be about Kurt's death, but I'm not sure whether it would be about him or Courtney (or both). The lines at the end about suicide suggest it, and there's other stuff that could be interpreted that way. "I think I deserve to be loved, don't you? And, I can still fantasize, but I keep it to myself..." could be about what Kurt was thinking before he killed himself. "It's a lovely stupid mop, it is..."- could be about Courtney "Dumb old sponge mop... I don't believe it...now the floor looks beautiful... That's why they call me mophandlemama..."- I don't know if Eddie believes the theory that Courney killed him, but that's what I think this line might refer to (a clean floor meaning destrying evidence). Although if this is what the line means, then I don't know why they would be talking about Kurt killing himself. A couple of things I don't know:

  1. Is the child in the song a girl or a boy with a high voice?
  2. What does the reference to the 23rd of May mean?

Scary song. It sucks you in and leads you through a swirling clutter of noise with suicide weighing heavily throughout, kurt cobain and the like, the voice fucks with you. Spanking? It's scary, but the first time I LISTENED to this I couldn't stop till it was done so intriguing like a dark place, frightening but what is in there?
