Rockaway Bch is an a real place. The Ramones are singing about their youth, and going to the beach. Rockaway Beach is in Queens, NY not far from where the Ramones grew up in Forest Hills, Queens.

They used to hitchhike or take the bus. which is about an hour trip. "bus ride is to slow - they blast out the disco on the radio" which is a slap at the Italian kids (like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever) who would play loud disco on the ride.

This is pretty much exactly what it is about.... They used to ride the Q53 bus or Q11 and Q21 down Woodhaven blvd. and over Crossbay blvd. into Rockaway (probably from 63rd Dr. or Queens Center Mall).

It's funny how you talk about the Italians in Howard Beach and Ozone Park because it's still like that today when you travel on the Q53 into Rockaway.

The only thing I wonder is what year this song was written about....not the year it was written, but the year it was lived.
