oh dear. ian curtis was the lead singer of an old band called joy division. back in 1977 joy division was a punk/art band, they invented what is now called "new wave" between 1979 and 1981. their last album, closer, which you probably ought to listen to for the simple sake of general education, contains the songs "24 hours", "heart and soul", "atrocity exhibition" (which begins with the lyrics "this is the way, step inside"). you can find "love will tear us apart" on the album "substance", which you might want to listen to as well. the day before "closer" was released and on the eve of their first u.s. tour ian left, he hung himself. the band got a new singer shortly thereafter and renamed themselves "new order". you've heard of new order, right?
