CAUTION, SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

It's based on the book by Shirley Jackson, We Have Always Lived In The Castle, from the point of view of Catherine "Merricat" Blackwood (18). She tries to keep safe her sister, Constance (28), from "who will suspect", cause all town thinks she poisoned their parents 6 years ago.

That's the reason they live alone in their house placed "Deep In The Woods" (with their old uncle, Julian), and don't go out.

"We're thieves of the wind leaving no trace about" may refer to Marricat and her faithful cat, Jonas, who is her only "friend".

"Safe with the treasure that cannot be found": Marricat loves to bury "magic" stuff in the garden.

"It feels like a change is upon us at last, consuming us fast". In the book, Marricat says this 'cause something happens in the house (I'm not going to tell you what) that makes her feel uncomfortable, so, she desperately tries to fix things.

And she fix them: "The smoke in the night, the ash on the light. I think that it might be the last thing in sight. I know I am right to let you be consumed by the light"
