I haven't seen the movie but I know this song is in it, I'm just trying to interpret how the song may relate to Darryl Hunt's situation.

The first five lines sounds like maybe this guy went out to a bar with friends and they ditched him. And he's drunk. And so he's feeling strange about something that may happen? Maybe he witnesses something, or something happens and he's blamed for it and gets in trouble with the law.
"Oh god, I'm scared
But I can't tell you that, can I?"
The way he sings it in the song sounds like he's asking God that question, instead of just saying it in general. Maybe he's praying that God will help with his situation and show them he's honest, yet God isn't helping him so he feels like he can't even tell him that he's scared.
