"Say The Words" as written by and Toby Mckeehan Mark Heimermann....
[You gotta say it, you gotta say it]

Solomon once wrote:
"Better is open rebuke, than hidden love"
So say the words...

Silence is golden but these are the words
That the world needs to hear
[brothers and sisters]
Terms of compassion will cause a reaction
As love drives them near

But still we choose to hide behind the face of pride
Pretending we are blind to the calling
This is my point and case, if hate can be erased
With such a simple phrase, why are we stalling?

(chorus)
Say the words, say the words, say "I love you"
Say the words I long to hear
Say the words, say the words, say "I love you"
Say the words I long to hear

Ya gotta say it, ya gotta say it, say it
Ya gotta say it, ya gotta say it

Some just assume we already know
Of the love that they feel
[brothers and sisters]
Some have a heartfelt emotion
But never the words to reveal

I think we all relate, so why are we afraid
To let our hearts convey what we're feeling?
There is a world in need with hungry souls to feed
And love can intercede if we're willing, so...

(repeat chorus)

Ya gotta say it, ya gotta say it, say it
Ya gotta say it, ya gotta say it

[check this out]
The word love, well it was once overused
Back in the 70's the word was abused
But I refuse to let love be diluted
We can't allow physical lust to intrude it
Or pollute it cause there ain't no excuse
For the greatest gift of all to be abused
So choose to lose the pride that may tug at you
Don't be afraid of the words "I love you"

(repeat chorus)

Choose to lose the pride that may tug at you
Don't be afraid of the words "I love you"

Won't you say the words
Say the words
Say the words "I love you"
[You've got to say it]
Say the words
Say the words
Say them over and over
[Yeah, you've got to say it, say it]

Choose to lose the pride that may tug at you
Don't be afraid of the words "I love you"

General CommentI think this song is talking about 2 things. First simply how saying I love you can solve many problems that we have today. So many people just want to be loved and as Christians we need to show that. The other thing I think it is talking about is getting back to what the phrase I Love you really means. It says The word love, well it was once overused, back in the 70's the word was abused. I think the phrase is still abused. It goes on to say how love is diluted and that we can't allow physical lust to intrude it. I belive that relationships today are very diluted and worthless. People who say I love you after dating for only 2 weeks of a few months. These people just say the words just to hear them and water down the true and passionate meaning of the phrase.

General CommentI agree with ImNotNormal. I also think this song addresses people's fear of saying "I love you", whether it is because of pride or fear of being rejected or misunderstood. Most people truly don't understand love. They think that confessing it is a weakness, or simply a phrase to be uttered only when somebody wants sex.

General CommentI agree with most of the above, but like what goddess said, it has a lot to do with people who are afraid to say it. They're afraid that they wont get the same thing back, and resort to, "If you don't try/say it, you wont lose anything" and we can't live by that. "Some just assume we already know of the love that they feel". I can almost completely relate to that line. Later in the song, during the bridge, he says with a strong voice, "Don't be afraid of the words, 'I love you!'" Don't be afraid to say "I love you!" Because you many never get another chance. This is a song the world really needs to know of.
