Welcome to my nightmare
I think you're gonna like it
I think you're gonna feel you belong
A nocturnal vacation
A necessary sedation
You wanna feel at home 'cause you belong

Welcome to my nightmare, whoa-whoa-oh

Welcome to my breakdown
I hope I didn't scare you
That's just the way we are when we come down
We sweat and laugh and scream here
'Cause life is just a dream here
You know inside you feel right at home here

You're welcome to my nightmare, yeah

Welcome to my nightmare
I think you're gonna like it
I think you're gonna feel you belong
We sweat and laugh and scream here
'Cause life is just a dream here
You know inside you feel right at home here

Welcome to my nightmare, ooh-ooh-ooh
Welcome to my breakdown

Yeah

The whole "Welcome to my Nightmare" album is a story about Steven. The start of the story is Steven beginning his nightmare, "Welcome to my Nightmare." The nightmare begins with Steven caught in a spider's web were he believes he must obey the black widow to survive, "The Black Widow." Then in "Some Folks" Steven talks about his love for murdering women and their dead corpses. He then sings about abusing his wife in "Only Women Bleed" which leads to him dreaming of having sex with a female corpse, "Cold Ethyl." He reveals that he had a bad childhood and refuses to be a man in "Years Ago." He goes on a rampage from his lost innocence, unknowingly murdering his wife while sleep walking hearing her scream his name,STEVEN! in "Steven." He awakens and finds out that he has murdered his wife when he sees the blood stains on his hands in "The Awakening." As a result of realizing that it was no dream and that he killed his wife he tries to escape with alcohol in "Escape." He returns in other songs like, "Wing Up Toy" where he admits that he believes he is still a child and is lost in a nightmare.

this song is the start of the album which is a concept album...the title says it all....the album is based on "steven" and a nightmare he goes through, alice plays steven and on the album from a 3rd person viewpoint and only rarely refers to himself as steven...( also vincent price is on this song) it's a good song and an amazing album

Thanks, Alice. Sorry to be so decades-slow on the uptake, but I never realized this album had quite such a dark concept behind it. I'll listen to it with greater respect (not to mention pleasure) from now on. Well done, sir!

    My Interpretation

I think the song is about drug withdrawlal in a psych center. He thinks he deserves the symptoms of his withdrawl, but also his nightmare.

I made up a play list of songs that could have been in a Darren Shan, the character, story, and I put this song on it. He's friends with a guy named Steve, who has probably been called Steven, although he has never mentioned it. He's basically telling anyone who is reading his story "Welcome to my nightmare. There are vampires there, but they aren't what you heard about in other media. We have enemies called the vampaneze who are responsible for those crap myths you heard about in the other vampire media". Beware. If you get scared easily, then find another boo to read that isn't scary".

Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
