This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
I'm sitting down here
But, hey, you can't see me
Your words cut deeply
They're just some other lies
I'm hiding from a distance
I've got to pay the price
Defending all against it
I really don't know why
You're obsessed with all my secrets
You always make me cry
You seem to wanna hurt me
No matter what I do
I'm telling just a couple
But somehow it gets to you
But I've learned to get revenge
And I swear you'll experience that some day
I'm sitting down here
But, hey, you can't see me
Kinda invisible
You don't sense my stay
Not really hiding, not like a shadow
Just thought I would join you for one day
I'm sitting down here
But, hey, you can't see me (see me, see me, see me, see me)
I'm not trying to avoid you
Just don't wanna hear your voice
When you call me up so often
I don't really have a choice
You're talking like you know me
And wanna be my friend
But that's really too late now
I won't try it once again
You may think that I'm a loser
That I don't really care
May think that it's forgotten
But you should be aware
'Cause I've learned to get revenge
And I swear you'll experience that some day
I'm sitting down here
But, hey, you can't see me
Kinda invisible
You don't sense my stay
Not really hiding, not like a shadow
Just thought I would join you for one day
I'm sitting down here
But, hey, you can't see me
Kinda invisible
You don't sense my stay
Not really hiding, not like a shadow
But sure I wanna join you for one day
You seem to wanna hurt me
No matter what I do

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
this song reminds me of summer. its clever the way that its quite an angry song, but she makes it sound so happy.
It's about a girl who's been treated badly by her boyfriend and she's lost interest in him completely but he's the one thinking she still cares which is untrue and in someways is kinda taughting her just to try and get himself talking to her again.
"You're trying like you know me, and wanna be my friend but that's really too late now, I won't try it once again"
Beautifully written she expresses how she feels exactly to him just so he gets the message that she knows that it is over. "Just thought that I'd join you for one day"
I heard the song again recently, and admittedly it's the sort of song that I have to keep the fact that I like it quiet, because all my friends know me to listen to Nirvana, Foo's etc. Stuff 'em. I'll listen to what I want. Besides, everyone has guilty pleasures. Plus, she's real purdy.
Anyhoo, yeah, I agree with the previous statement.
Same here strider3005. im also a rocker, but this song is one of those that makes you feel so happy.
I agree with all of you above. The meaning of this song is quite clear, but what’s so unique about it is that it sounds so happy, summery and pretty. I think she’s trying to convey that she’s experienced a bad relationship, but she’s realised that it wasn’t worth it and she’s overcome the hurt and now she can easily deal with it and move on. But at the same time she’s still a little wrapped in the feeling and that’s why she’s sitting there watching him and saying that she’s letting go now.
I can’t relate to this song but personally for me the chorus of this song has a different meaning. Its out of context, but the lyrics of the chorus alone remind me of that situation that everyone will experience, and that’s when you like someone secretly and you find yourself watching them and admiring them, ‘im sitting down here but hey you cant see me…just thought I would join you for one day’. Its not stalkerish in any way. Its just for that sweet and fun crush you can develop for someone. The music and melody suit that situation and that’s why this song always makes me feel happy.
I agree with the previous statements about the meaning of this song. I've always liked it, but now I realise just how perfectly I relate to it right now.
"Your words cut rather deeply, they're just some other lies... ... You're obsessed with all my secrets, you always make me cry you seem to wanna hurt me no matter what I do"
"I'm not trying to avoid you, just don't wanna hear your voice when you call me up so often, I don't really have a choice You're trying like you know me, and wanna be my friend but that's really too late now"
Those parts especially.
And last of all, "but I've learned to get revenge and I swear you'll experience that some day"
Revenge is sweet. And will come in a few hours..
this song is for my friend who hurt me in the past. the words are so true to someone who i regarded as a friend but i don't understand why she "seem to wanna hurt me" with bad words 'that cut so deeply" and she seems "obsessed with all my secrets" so she can embarrass me in front of other people. Now I play invisible to her. I just got tired to care anymore. It hurts so much when someone u cared for hurt u like that. but this song makes me feel like it doesn't matter anymore. somehow during that period of my life when she is hurting me, I sing this song and because of the happy tune I feel better. i love this song because of that.
