"The Sharks Own Private Fuck" as written by and Jeremy Enigk....
we choke on the poison wind
well these sad eyes can tell the story
walk along an empire's path
and you said you'd come back again
but you talk to yourself
believing the fear that drives your greed
when you discover the empty place
a hollow world of instant pleasures
the way you were
so disturbed
what's your worth?
what is it you heard?
try to smile as they devour our youth
with a diamond eye you gaze
at the blackened plains spread out beneath you
when the lights go out you'll see
the world as you have never known it
and i talked to myself
believing that you would come back again

General CommentThe song was rumoured to be about original bassist Nate Mendel's changing his mind about leaving Foo Fighters to rejoin SDRE.

Supposedly he told Jeremy and crew that he would quit Foos to get back with them if they started Sunny Day back up, then changed his mind because he was banking so much with Dave Grohl.

General CommentYeah, it seems like a friend is lost into a world of shallow people and materialism, and his return is longed for. the application of the lyrics to the situation with mendel and the two bands could work, since sdre definitely has more substance despite the fact that they have not been as commercially successful as the foo fighters.

General Commenti don't see where this rumor that jeremy was a hardcore christian came from. maybe he was at one point, but i've never heard/read anything from his own mouth confirming it. i went to one of his solo shows in may and saw him smoking outside beforehand. he also kept a beer with him onstage at all times, so he's hardly a puritan even if some of his lyrics can be interpreted as expressions of faith.

General Commentactually there are several sources including a letter written by him to fans after their first break up confirming his born-again status. I don't think however that he's a complete "my body is my temple" kind of christian - just that he's found jesus as spiritual guidance...

or some shit like that. I saw SDRE twice after their initial breakup and he was smoking and drinking as well.

General CommentI just wonder why the song title has its title and why it is a swear word, isn't jeremy a christian?
