I've tried so hard my dear to show
That you're my every dream
Yet you're afraid each thing I do
Is just some evil scheme

A memory from your lonesome past
Keeps us so far apart
Why can't I free your doubtful mind
And melt your cold, cold heart

Another love before my time
Made your heart sad an' blue
And so my heart is paying now
For things, I didn't do

In anger, unkind words are said
That make the teardrops start
Why can't I free your doubtful mind
And melt your cold, cold heart

There was a time when I believed
That you belonged to me
But now I know your heart is shackled
To a memory

The more I learn to care for you
The more we drift apart
Why can't I free your doubtful mind
And melt your cold, cold heart, ah, ah

General CommentBest example of her range of talent. This song has been done by so many people but the arrangement of hers is the best. She has taken a timeless piece of perfection by Hank Williams which has always sounded whiny and made it sound like a million bucks.

General CommentI love norah! Her lyrics are so insightful and make you wish you had thought them first! It's great to see such raw talent again! This song is one of my favourites on her album. I could just close my eyes and put it on replay for the whole day!

General CommentHey Danika - I bet Norah wishes she'd thought of those insightful lyrics first, too. The song was written by Hank Williams. Doh!

General Commentnorah jones is freaking amazing. i love this song. It just brings so much emotion to me. I feel the pain of trying to get someone you love to trust you and love you back. I did even know that this song was a remake. Norah has brought this song to a whole new generation. Kudos to her!
