Hark, O'Nightspirit. Father of my dark self. From within this realm, wherein Thou dwelleth. By this lake of blood, from which we feed to breed. I call silently for Thy presence, as I lay this oath.
May this night carry my will and these old mountains forever remember this night. May the forest whisper my name and may the storm bring these words to the end of all worlds.
May the wise moon be my witness. As I swear on my honour. In respect of my pride and darkness itself, that I shall rule by the blackest wisdom
O'Nightspirit... I am one with thee, I am the eternal power, I am the Emperor!
Winds and storms, embrace us now. Lay waste the light of day. Open gates to darker lands. We spead our wings and fly away...

General CommentA grandious song about mystic experience of man,his magical self-emancipation.As a heathen I clearly entrust the unbounded abilities of man to reach his aims, then to transcend all horizons. As MAN is the Heir of Gods,Descendant of ODHINN...
Mysterious reality is GRIM AND CRUEL,as more far your spirit reach.

General CommentThis song gives me the feeling of first making a pact with some evil force (The Nightspirit), exchanging my life for some great glory and might, and then when the epic part kicks in, the glory finally appears to me.
Like walking through a door and seeing legions of warriors awaiting my command.

General CommentI see Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk as a concept album. In the first track, the protagonist binds hmself, either through a Faustian pact ('as I lay this oath') or possession ('I am one with thee') to the Nightspirit, which is a manifestation of the violence and power of both the Nordic and Satanic traditions. In the Divine Comedy the innermost circle of hell, the ninth circle, is described by Dante as a frozen lake of blood, and is where traitors are punished. Satan, who betrayed God, is found at the centre of the ninth circle, frozen in ice and most likely Nightspirirt refers to Satan, a fallen angel, thus 'spread our wings and fly away'.

General CommentThis song is pretty self-explainatory. A man, The Emperor, is laying down his oath to the night-spirit. This is basically the ritual or written oath to the nightspirit, and pledging himself to it.

General CommentThis song is fucking brilliant. It's beautiful and oddly peaceful. Emperor, you are GODS.
