"Mother Heroic" as written by E. E. Cummings, Guy Sigsworth and Bjork Gudmundsdottir....
Foot soldier
March ahead
Enter the unknown
You will take the first step

Foot soldier
Blindfolded
You're babystepping
Carefully treading
Blindfolded
Tread carefully

Conquer the darkness
Into the darkness
Foot soldier
And then we'll follow
But you go first
March ahead
But you go first
Foot soldier
March ahead

Foot soldier
Who will take the first step

General CommentNo comments on this one yet... not a well known song. Although I suspect this is written by Bjork to a general female divinity, eg Gaia or other, I can't help loving it as a hymn to the Mother of Christ, who at once is glorious, and sorrowful. pure and Blessed Virgin Mary.

General CommentI absolutely love this song. I kind of think either this song on Generous Palmstroke deserved to be on Vespertine and not made into b-sides- perhaps even in place of Heirloom. I like Heirloom, but I don't feel like it fits with the rest of the album as well as these two songs.

Anyway, this song is beautiful and deeply spiritual to me. I see it as a hymn to the Earth, anthropomorphized slightly as though she were singing to Gaia, to an Earth spirit or to an Oversoul.

    Simple, gorgeous, delicate and resonant.
