"The Way It Really Is" as written by Lindy Robbins, Glen Ballard and Lisa A. Loeb....
I kept talking to myself
I had to get the words out of my head
So I did
You barely said a thing
You kind of heard me out and then you said

You said:
"You're crazy, why do you keep doing this?
Everything is fine."
Then I think, I'm crazy
I do this all the time
Until I start to think that nothing's even wrong

[Chorus]
Maybe I am
Hiding in my own confusion
Maybe we're just
A picture in my head
Maybe what if it could be
The way I wish it really was
Maybe I don't want to see it
The way it really is

Sometimes your intentions
Are totally impossible to read
What does that mean?
Sometimes even I
Have no idea what I need
I wish I did.

I'm crazy
Why do I keep doing this?
Everything is fine.
Then you think I'm crazy
I do this all the time
Until I start to think
That something's really wrong

[Chorus]

Looking out my window
At the big blue sky
Lazy sun shining and so I run outside
To look for you
I look for you
And then it starts to rain

Maybe I am
Is that the way it really is?
Maybe we're just
A picture in my head
Maybe what if it could be
The way I wish it really was
Maybe I don't want to see it
The way it really is

[Chorus x2]

Maybe I don't want to see it
Maybe I don't want to see it
The way it really is
The way it really is
The way it really is
The way it really is

General CommentThis is one of her best songs. I mean, maybe you're just hiding and telling yourself something is what it is, when the reality is..you know it's not that at all. This song really speaks to that experience that many of us have at some point or another.

General CommentIts about talking to yourself out loud about a relationship and trying to see it from different points of view.

    I love the line:

"Maybe we're just a picture in my head"

Maybe her thoughts of the relationship being perfect is all in her head.

General Commenti've totally been in this position before.

she's in a relationship and she's unhappy, but on the outside everything looks fine, and the other person doesn't understand why she's not satisfied. she doesn't even understand why she's not satisfied, so she's constantly worrying about it and trying to talk to them about it and just making the problem worse.

she doesn't know what she wants ("sometimes even i have no idea what i need"), so she doesn't know how to tell this person what she needs from them. she just knows she's unhappy and she doesn't know why. so she keeps trying to tell herself that everything is okay when she knows it's really not. then she gets angry and frustrated when the real relationship doesn't match up to the way she thinks it should be.
