"The Other Side" as written by and Steven/vallance Tyler....
There are times when you will not like the sound of my voice
There are days when a warm look from a strange face will make me forget my name
There'll be nights when you wonder where the party's at now
And you wonder why you never split this beat scene when a higher life awaits
There'll be days when you don't know how you picked the wrong life
In a second when it's over in our own minds -- and it's gone without a sound
There are fights that'll hear things that we know we don't mean
And we say 'em 'cos we don't know what we both want and we can't get to the other side

There are years that'll fly like wind across a flood plain
Unaware of its own weight, free of friction, and immune to its own speed
There are weeks that'll crawl like slugs across a hot road
Only moving 'cos it just don't know how to stop on a search for god knows what
And there are songs that'll make your skull ring like a dropped cup
Resonating with the reasons why you worked through -- and the reasons why you stayed

For the long nights when you found a new resolve that I never knew was there
For the cold eye and the warm embrace now
For the righteous vibe that I need like the air I breathe

There are times when you'll think you've got my funny number figured out
There'll be days when I don't feel like
I ever knew you all that well and there are lines
Drawn around, behind, above and over everyone
In an effort to figure out the place and time
The right, the wrong, the yours, the mine
And I'll be damned if I feel like I will ever know anything
But if don't keep moving on that last hill
We'll never know what's on the other side

General CommentSuch a good song, especially with the drum-n-bass beat in the background. Like a primer to love.

General CommentThis has to be one of my all-time favourite songs. The lyrics, the vibe and *that* drumming all make it a true classic. *PANTJACULATE*

General Commenti love this song b/c it seems he is approaching his lover with his humanity,
like, "here i am, i am human, i am going to make you happy sometimes, miserable others. take me or leave me, but here i am."

General CommentAMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. In my top 5 dp songs ever. I love the crazy time signature and the schizo-ness of the background contrasted with the melancholy ringing sounds throughout the song (what is that instrument in the beginning/midway after "other side"? I'm guessing guitar with some funky effects on it, but who knows?)

The lyrics are absolutely genius; my favorites in particular are basically the entire second stanza. The metaphors, analogies, and imagery (the wind and the slugs? absolutely beautiful and ingenius) in this song are dead-on. Not one word is wasted breath.
One line that really stands out to me--not because it is particularly unique, but because of the sentiment-- is "there'll be days when you don't know how you picked the wrong life." I think many people go through a time or think they have a revelation that what they are doing with their lives is not what they were meant to do/be, or that one has missed his/her calling. The feeling is one of such immense dispair that the path you have chosen for yourself is totally wrong and that if only you had done something else you'd truly be fulfilled and happy, yet you are so far along doing what you've been doing all along and it's impossible to get to the "other side." I could go on and on and pick apart every amazing line, but I think the lyrical beauty needs to speak for itself and for each individual listener.

djmog-- totally love the remix (if you're referring to the one on "A People's History..."), although I wouldn't say it's better, but a completely different feel (I think it has less of a despairing, melancholic feel and more of a chaotic yet resigned vibe).

General Commentthis song takes me to the other side

By far my favorite dismemberment song, seriously can't be a better song out there to describe the state of ambiguity I am in at times.
