"Halloween" as written by and David Dwyane King James Diers....
Hey little dreamer's eyes open and staring up at me
Oh, little lovely eyes, oh, and radiant
Wait until I come and I will steal you
Wait until I come, I'll take your soul
Wait until I come and I will steal you
Wait until I come and I will go

I will dream within the night
Shadows on the windows
Lead our love
Every love will lead me on tonight
I will lay you lying,
I will not within this life

Oh, little dreamer-eyes open and waving here
Wait until I come, and I see them go!
Then again I leave them (hee!)
Until I come, I do come, love...

We will leave it all behind
Oh, and in the nightmares,
I'll fill them in good time, oh
They will 'seech your mind
And no lying, and you may, well, ask,
"Why do we run around here?"
"Oh, why does it come inside me?"
"Oh, why does it rip me all between?"
Why then, why then, watch this little fuck!

Going away, yeah...
Why this lonely, why this lonely, why this lonely, love?
Why this lonely, why this lonely, why this lonely, love?
Oh I will carry on, burial, burial, burial, burial, burial
And let them see
But tell us, are you satisfied, with fucking up? Don't walk away, don't walk away, don't walk away
I'm talking to you!
Lovey dove, love is hell, love is hell, love is up to you
Love, love, love, love is up to you
Love, love, love, love is up to you

In the sky is half-wrote
Up from the ground,
I stay out of breath
I felt the temperature rises
And I felt across the creeping (???)

Ah, These graves... (???)

General CommentHalloween is on my top 3 list of favorite Dave Matthews songs. Many people ride off this song as Dave trying to scream into a microphone about a past bitch girlfriend that would not commit, but in all reality that is not the case. I am sure that it is possible that the event of Dave being rejected by his G.F. inspired him to write about the theme of love rejection. What people tend to not realize is that this song means a lot to The Dave Matthews Band because it is not just the lyrics that are overly dramatic but as well as the instruments that are involved as well. Dave and his band members came together and made a song of pure adrenalin and extreme passion. An exuberant and haunting sound is given off through Dave's cold lyrics and the piercing but yet comforting notes that are played on the violin as well as the guitar. Of course the saxaphone brings together the amazing equilibrium that is created through The Dave Mathews Band. Halloween is indeed a hard and or thrashy type song if you compare it to such work as Crash or Under the Table, but BEFORE THESE CROWDED STREETS happens to be a cd that is full of rough emotions poured over 12 tracks. For example Sad as Stone, Dont Drink the Water, and my absolute favorite THE STONE. People need to praise Dave's ability to be so diverse in his music abilities rather than riding off Halloween as The Dave Matthews Band's attempt to create rough music about a dumb girlfriend that is now I am sure regretting not giving Dave the chance that he so well deserved.

General Commentwow, I love to see the Live "Gorge" version. When he belts out into the microphone it really sets me off. I could feel it!. I take it as an ex-girlfriend fucking you up! When love is lost it burns, but this songs is a healer. The simple man got played :) read Proverbs chapter 5

General CommentHalloween is a brutal kick ass song. I am a fan of hard rock as well as DMB. my spectrum is wide for music. My older brother (a pansy as well i might add) always skipped this song, said it "scared him" and i agree it's definitely a "What the?" type DMB song cause they don't normally write music like that. But this is a rockin tune and very powerful. I mean the man is bleeding his soul on this song and you all had the pleasure to hear it.

General Commentthis is my favorite song because dave is so passionate and the style is just so different from their other songs - i agree with steelbluerage that he's "bleeding his soul." i've been through rejection before - and i have also rejected... "And in this dream tell us are you satisfied with fucking " more is wanted out of a relationship that can be more physical than anything else - and it definetely is a bitter thing to let go. <3

General CommentI wonder why this is the only song without printed lyrics in the booklet for "Before These Crowded Streets"?

General CommentThis song is the sequel to I'll Back You Up, a song written for the girl to whom Dave proposed and was then rejected, hence this song.

General CommentThese lyrics are pretty screwed up. alot of them are wrong. check other listings on different websites and compare what you think is closer to what he is saying.

General Commentthis song is a fuck you to his x- girlfriend he ask her to marry him like 7 times. she denied him every single time. he is saying love hurts, its an agonizing pain that filters out your soul and you weep.
