"(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" as written by Steve Cropper and Otis Redding....
Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' comes
Watchin' the ships roll in
Then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah
I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watchin' the tide roll away, ooo
I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the Frisco Bay
'Cause I had nothin' to live for
It look like nothin's gonna come my way
So I'm just goin' sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watchin' the tide roll away, ooo
I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay, wastin' time

Look like nothin's gonna change
Everything, still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes

Sittin' here restin' my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone, yes
Two thousand miles, I roam
Just to make this dock my home
Now I'm just gonna sit, at the dock of the bay
Watchin' the tide roll away, ooo yea
Sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

General CommentI believe this song is about being comfortable about where you are in your life at any given moment. He can't just be a follower anymore, instead he does what he wants to do - wastes time.

General CommentThe song is about being down and out. The whistiling at the end was to fill the space that he didnt have lyrics for when he recorded it. He was going to go back and write words for it and rerecord it. Knowing that makes the song even more powerful. A depressing song that he couldn't even get properly finished.

General CommentI love this song, it makes me smile too. This and "Up on the roof" are two older songs that never fail to bring a smile to my face... though they're quite different. Ah... I wish I had a dock... but if I did, I'd need to learn how to swim, too!

General CommentThis is the best song for just having stuck in your head. I always think of it when I'm stressed because it says that however far you go from home you can always find someplace that feels like home.
