"Alone" as written by and Lisa Loeb....
I want to be by myself, sometimes I do.
I don't want to be left behind, but sometimes I'm left by you.
I press my tongue to the top of my mouth,
Cause my jaw, was tired from the thinking.
And I stretched my toes to the end of the couch,
'cause my back, it was aching from sleeping.
So what is this weather, and what is this darkness,
And why do I feel so alone?
And when will it snow, it's been raining for hours,
And why do I feel so alone?
And when I'm left at home, when you're with someone else I'm all alone.
You do not cheat me of my childhood.
You bring me blankets for the walls of my forts.
There is no anger with the eyebrow raised.
When you do the fantastic I am amazed.
So what is this weather, and what is this darkness,
And why do I feel so alone?
When will it snow, it's been raining for hours,
And why do I feel so alone?
You were leaving some bar, and you're coming downtown,
You're not ripping out stitches, but you want me around.
Just to call you my love, just to call you my love.
You are the treasure custodian cleaning the moon for me.
Scouring the sky so the stars would shine bright.
You stand straight-faced, and tip-toed on top of a ladder,
And i, I wait, and i, I wait, and i, I wait.
And when I'm left at home, I'm all alone
But I'd rather be alone with you.
So what is this weather, and what is this darkness,
And why do I feel so alone?
When will it snow, it's been raining for hours,
And why do I feel so alone?
Oh, why do I feel so alone?

    General CommentQuote from Lisa Loeb:

""Alone" is really fun to do live. I played some electric on it. Fugazi has these great guitar stops and I wanted to do something like that on this song. There is a quiet jazz standard quality to certain parts, while other sections are completely overdriven."

    General Comment1st paragraph:

A recurring problem in the relationship? Or is it really a problem - maybe it's just like a mere sour aftertaste that lingers sometimes after meals, not that much that you have to go clean your mouth, but it's there nonetheless...

    2nd paragraph:

A good significant other. Someone who you're proud to be with, someone you longs to be with. But why the loneliness?

    3rd. paragraph:

How a person can have such power over another. Because of love. As what's being said; love is illogical, blind, and totally impractical - and ironically because of all that it's all powerful.

General Commenti don't think that she feels like he really cares about her, just that he keeps her around for show and it makes her feel terribly alone but she stays anyway because rather than be alone all by herself she'd rather have some company (when i'm left at home, i'm all alone, but i'd rather be alone with you)

General Commentthis song reminds me of the feelings a little child has dependent on a parent, and yet has transferred into an adult relationship. there's almost a feeling immaturity in the words, like this person is timid and afraid.

You are the treasure custodian cleaning the moon for me
Scouring the sky so the stars would shine bright

Genius... isn't she? Those words are just beautiful.

General CommentIt's about her being 40 years old and a dried up marriage-less hag.
