well the people walk all around the thing
on an island very far from here
they pay it homage like a god
and they paint it on each and every year
a sign for all it was given to us
and we all appreciate this bomb
the tourists don't now and never will
it has no use its meaning is gone
the statue of liberty and for united we stand
we all agree it's a mystery but why'd they give it to us?
we still don't know just why it came
a present from god or by the rain
the crowds swarm wildly to see its peak
when i watch i go insane
why is it so important to them
what is the beauty they see in it
i don't know why i just accept it
i don't want it cause it makes me sick

General CommentI like this song because I kind of feel the same way. I think the point is that the US was built on some great ideas. Every man is created equal and what not. But, unfortunatly, these things don't seem to mean anything. They didn't even mean anything when they first said them. It's like America wants to be the perfect nation, but they can't stop being bigots and over-all assholes to actually make it happen. Of course, I'm generalizing, but that's how I see it, anyway.

General Commenti think this song is about how the statue of liberty stands for a lot of thing, liberty, freedom and so on. none of these are reflected by the land it's in so why do we have it? another thing it might mean is how people are so proud of it but why? can't people see that it means nothing? every nation has it's bad and good people, the statue of liberty kind of shows good intentions i guess but why do you need a statue to see that?
