"Jesus Loves You" as written by and Jewel Kilcher....
They say that Jesus loves you
What about me?
They say that money breaks you
I still wanna see
They say you're only half alive
Till you give extra whitening a try

Well I wanna see, I wanna see
What can you do for me?

Showing ta-tas on the TV is OK
I wanna be OK,too
Having my picture in a magazine makes me special
How special are you?
They say if I donate, even I
Can buy a lot in heaven before I die

Well I wanna see, I wanna see
What can you do for me?

I want someone else to pack my lunch
Gonna get get someone else to pull the punch
Pay a psychic for romance
Gonna pay a priest for a,
Will you give me a second chance
Will you give me a second chance

They say abortion will send u straight to a fiery hell
That is if the fanatics don't beat Satan to the kill
It's not what I can do for anybody
It's what there body can do for me

Well I wanna see, I wanna see
What can u do for me?

They say that Jesus loves you
What about me?

General CommentThis song is sarcastic. It's not meant to be taken literally. I think she's trying to illustate human nature. How we are greedy, selfish and how we just want to see what everything is all about. It's not always a negitive thing to question. It helps us grow and evolve. I love this song. It's one of my favourites. The line, "they say abortion will send you straight to a firey hell, that is if the fanatics don't beat Satan to the kill" has become one of my favourite quotes. This song is truth.

General CommentI think that she is questioning whether Jesus could do anything for her, in terms of having doubts and worries. It's that feeling where you question anyones abilities to provide the things that you need.

At least I think that could be it!

General CommentI agree with Lailseax. I'm a christian and I question/doubt God at times. I think questioning is an important part in one's faith journey. I think she wrote this, after seeing all the hyprocracy in the world (even in organized religion). Faith ain't easy.

General CommentI dont really think shes saying God doesnt exist. I think shes trying to point out the hypocrisy in religion. Like when she says
"They say that if I donate, even I
Can buy a lot in heaven before I die"
The catholic church is good example. If you dont pay them, you arent going to heaven. Its about how wrong it is to "buy God"

General CommentExcellent song! I believe this song is partly about people being judgmental (which is not a true Christian's job). Sounds like she is breaking free of caring how people judge her . . . and anyone else for that matter. I totally agree with jewel20's comment above. I've loved this song from the first time I heard it!

General CommentThey say that Jesus loves everyone, but what about the victims of religious prejudice? Abortion clinics? Gays? It just shows how selfish and hypocritical judgmental people can be.
