with a light of this match
i could burn this place to the ground
then fire engines'd scream
down crowded streets onto the scene
and then i'd make it rain
and numb myself to never say your name
that i've muttered in anger
said with confusion
laughed over nervously
said without sympathy

i must always remember
there's no point to surrender

no more smiles
revolving like turnstiles
no more deliberation
analytical creations
i'm incapable
a predepressionist
this is delivered with courage
muddled in tension
lashed out in honesty
someone come and save me

i'm dying to tell you
this kills it forever
it was already dead
i'm dying to tell you
this kills us forever
we were already dead
and i'm just fine
i haven't called you
but i haven't had the time
thoughts are stale
i've been revolving like turnstiles

to me this song sounds like chris is teetering on the edge of ending a relationship. it's put him through a lot; he's been angry, confused, nervous and non-sympathetic (haha). he's not 100% either way, and the lyrics do a really good job of showing that reluctance, hence the turnstiles, going through his thoughts and his options over and over in a never-ending process. in the end, he's still not really positive what he's gonna do, and he simply concludes with a warning of what will happen if he chooses to leave.

the part where chris and brendan harmonize on "i'm just fine" sends shivers down my spine. it's just so honest in its fake, sarcastic tone.

In the Cocktails And Dreams version inlay notes, it says: "THANX TO SOME OTHER GUYS WHO WROTE A SONG CALLED TURNSTILE FOR SOME SMALL LYRICAL CHANGES". The changes are instead of "I'm not shedding...", they sing "There's no point to surrender, I must always remember." taken from the Hot Water Music song. Which just so happens to be one of my favorites and one of the most awesome songs ever written.

This is my favourite song ever! The Cocktails & Dreams version that is.

I think the song is about someone who's afraid to give up, but feels like he's lost that fight a long time ago. "I'm dying to tell you: This kills it forever, it was already dead. I dying to tell you: This kills us forever, we were already dead"

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Cajun Girl

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
