When you're all alone and you need a light
Someone to guide you through the night
Just remember that I am here
To hold you close and dry your tears, oh, oh

And just when you thought you were falling
But you know I'll always be right there

When you're all alone and you need a friend
Someone to help you to the end
When you need someone to catch you
When you fall I'll be there through it all, oh, oh

Just when you thought you were losing
But you know I'll always be right there

I'll be there through the good times
And the bad
And we'll be there for each other
You're the best friend I ever had, oh, oh

And just when you thought you were falling
But you know I'll always be right there
Oh, oh whenever you need me
I'll always be right there

I'll always be right there

This is my favorite song from Michelle Branch, the first time I heard it, I was immediately taken by the lyrics and the emotion she puts into the song.

Cute song, sung well, interesting background music. Obviously about how close she is with either a friend or a bf and how she will always have that person's back. However, the lyrics are kind of lame and cliche as is the topic...hate to say it, but songs like these kind of just prove how limited of a genre pop is

I read somewhere that she wrote this song with her best friend, Jennifer Hagio or something. They were in the music room of their high school, and Michelle just started playing the piano, and together they wrote this song in like 15 minutes. So yeah, just a little anecdote, but I thought it was a really cute story.

The lyrics are kind of generic to be honest, but she wrote it for fun with her best friend at 14 or something, so it's not like she's going to try to write the next #1 song in America. And if you listen to some of her other songs like "Goodbye To You", which she wrote at 15 (by herself), you can tell she's an amazing songwriter, even if it doesn't show in this song.

I'll agree that the lyrics are pretty generic stuff, but there's an emotional quality to this song that touches me. :3

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
