"Barcelona" as written by and Jewel Kilcher....
Barcelona
Where the winds all blew
The churches don't have windows
But the graveyards do
Me and my shadow
Are wrestling again
Look out stranger
There's a dark cloud moving in

But if you could hear
The voice in my heart
It would tell you
I'm afraid I am alone

Wont somebody please
Hold me, release me
Show me the meaning of mercy
Let me loose
Fly, let me fly
Let me fly

Super paranoid
I'm blending, I'm blurring
I'm bleeding
Into the scenery
Loving someone else
Is so much easier
But I hold myself hostage
In the mirror

But if you could hear
The voice in my heart
It would tell you
Im tired of feeling this way

God, wont you please
Hold me, release me
Show me the meaning of mercy
Let me loose
Let me fly
Let me fly
Let me fly

I wont be held down
I wont be held back
I will lead with my faith

The red light
Has been following me
But don't worry mother
Its no longer my gravity

Hold me, release me
Show me the meaning of mercy
Let me fly
Let me fly
Let me fly

General Commenti love this song. it's so pretty and reminds me of my summertime. everyday after i woke up and took a shower, i'd stand in my room, in front of the air conditioner, and listen to the hands cd religiously. it was the beginning of each day of summer last year for me.

General CommentBarcelona is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Awesome lyrics and a great melody. This is by far my favorite song by Jewel.

General CommentI'm not quite sure what exactly it is about this song that makes me love it so much, but it is definitely my favorite song off of the "Spirit" CD. My favorite thing to do is be in my car all by myself and sing this song at the top of my lungs. It kicks ass!

General CommentI like how this songs speak about breaking free (Let me fly) and it talks about the disparities in life like when she mentioned that graveyards have windows but not the churches. Very poignant statement in my opinion.

General CommentI think this song is about letting one view themself in a more positve way:

    Me and my shadow
    Are wrestling again

    and

    Loving someone else
    Is so much easier
    But I hold myself hostage
    In the mirror

If only she could love herself she would be better off:

Hold me, release me (from her self loathing)
Show me the meaning of mercy (for herself)
    Let me fly
