"Ballad of Jayne" as written by Mick Cripps, Tracii Gunns, Philip Lewis, Kelly Nickels and Steve Riley....
She was always something special
Diamond shining bright in the rain
Everybody dreams of angels
No one would ever know
How much I love you so

Now it all seems funny, kinda like a dream
Things ain't always what they seem
What a shame, what happened to Jayne

You were always on my mind
Shine like a summer day in the sun
Slowly wishes turn to sadness
Time don't heal a broken gun
I wish I never let you go
Even now I just want you to know

That it all seems funny, kinda like a dream
Things ain't always what they seem
What a shame, what happened to Jayne

Now she's breakin' hearts in heaven
Shinin' bright in the sky
I still hear her voice in the wind
I still think of you in the night, oh yeah
Well I guess you'll never know
How much I need her so

Now it all seems funny, kinda like a dream
Things ain't always what they seem
What a shame, what a shame
What happened to Jayne

Now it all seems funny, kinda like a dream
Things ain't always what they seem
What a shame, what happened today
What happened today

General CommentThis song brings me back to a time.... wow. Recently a musician friend of mine from back in the days passed away. He was only 36 when he died, but this song makes me think of him. Cuz it does seem like a dream. The parties, the fun times, the sunshine, all the craziness. Here's to you, T!

General Commenti can't believe there's only one other comment for this song!!! i absolutely love this song, it definitely brings me back. i also have it on my cell phone so you can listen to it while waiting for me to answer instead of the phone "ringing". i've heard it's about jayne mansfield but i don't know if that's true or not. and, boxermom1004, i'm very sorry about your friend. may he rest in peace.

General CommentI love this song. I have had it on a hair metal disc for more than a decade now but only recently fell in love with it. No idea why it never caught my attention before. The meaning is self-explanatory. About the death of Jayne.

General CommentSure, it was written specifically about Jayne Mansfield, but like any good set of lyrics, it doesn't have to be taken that way. My favorite lines are "Childlike summer days in the sun / Slowly wishes turn to sadness." That's when you find out whatever it is you think is so great, a relationship or a dream or whatever, either isn't all you thought, or isn't going to last, or happen at al.
