i've thought about it for a while
and i've thought about the many miles
but i think it's time that i'm going away

the feelings that you've had for me
have gone away, it's plain to see
and it looks to me that your pulling away

i'm gonna pick it up
i'm gonna pick it up today
i'm bound to pack it up
i'm bound to pack it up and go away

i find it hard to say to you
that this is what i have to do
but there is no way that i'm gonna stay

there's so many things you need to know
and i want to tell you before i go
but its hard to think of just what to say

i'm gonna pick it up
i'm gonna pick it up today
i'm bound to pack it up
i'm bound to pack it up and go away

i'm sorry to leave you all alone
you're sitting silent by the phone
but we've always known there would come a day

the bus is warm and softly lit
and a hundred people ride on it
i guess i'm just another running away

i'm gonna pick it up
i'm gonna pick it up today
i'm bound to pack it up
i'm bound to pack it up and go away

oh yeah-ah-yeah

General CommentThis song is amazingly beautiful and, as Ted Bannana said, pretty self explanatory.

"there's so many things you need to know
and i want to tell you before i go
but its hard to think of just what to say"

Although not in the same context of the song, quite the opposite really, that's exactly how I feel towards a girl right now.

General CommentI heart this song times a nazillion. This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Does anybody know if Paul Henry Ossy (the vionlinist) has any of his own stuff? This song is so relaxing.

General CommentHas been my favorite song from the White Stripes since I first heard it. As Anarchy_Insane has already noted, the great thing about this song is that the feeling it evokes is independent of context - I've definitely felt I could relate to this song at various points in my life when I've had to (physically) move on from one place to another, leaving people behind (though not necessarily permanently).

General CommentI like that "Bound" has several meanings in this song. First being tied or destined; the break-up was bound to happen because the love was gone. Second, traveling to a place, for example, "homeward bound". Third, making a huge leap; making the decision that now is the time to end the relationship. With the word "bound", the writer has summed up the song. The relationship was bound to end, he is the one to bound out of it, and he is bound for his next distination.

General CommentAwesome fact; Paul Henry Ossy is Jack's cousin.

...and yes, this song is about leaving. Possibly leaving a broken relationship that's been doomed for a long while.
