Every night I tell myself
"I am the cosmos, I am the wind"
But that don't get you back again

Just when I was starting to feel okay
You're on the phone
I never wanna be alone

Never wanna be alone
I hate to have to take you home
Wanted too much to say no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Never wanna be alone
I hate to have to take you home
Want you too much to say no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

My feeling's always have been something
I couldn't hide, I can't confide
Don't know what's going on inside

So every night I tell myself
"I am the cosmos, I am the wind"
But that don't get you back again

I'd really like to see you again
I really wanna see you again
I'd really like to see you again
I really wanna see you again
I'd really like to see you again
I really wanna see you again
I never wanna see you again
I really wanna see you again

General CommentWhen you're down in the dumps I think it's common practice to try and build yourself up with some positive statements. For Chris Bell he calls himself the cosmos. However, the song also goes on to say how it doesn't help much, because he's still alone and weak and doesn't know what to do.

So basically it's about how internalizing to yourself and building yourself up is ultimately hollow because what's going on in your life still sucks. It's a pretty down message, illustrated in his cries of 'I never wanna be alone' and his inability to figure out whether he ever wants to see this person again: 'I really wanna see you again'...next line...'I never wanna see you again'.

    This is one confused bastard.

General CommentThis is a horribly depressing yet beautiful song. It's an experience. It's one of the best songs no one knows about. Do yourself a favor and pick up chris bell's only album that goes by the same name as this song. Also check out Big Star's first two albums. Very beautiful music. Trust me. However, be warned Chris Bell's album is very, very, depressing, especially if you know the tragid story of his life. Try to follow his music up with something a little more lighthearted because you might go nutso listening to his stuff, this man was in some deep deep pain. The Posies did a nice cover of this also by the way.

General CommentI agree with bakismaki, It's one of the best songs no one knows about.

It's a depressing song but at the same time it's hopeful. This guy doesn't know what he wants exactly. He wants her, but then she destroys him emotionally. He has no idea what to do. He just needs to figure things out.

General CommentThe song is about Chris and his struggles with repressed homosexuality and his attempt to use his newfound christianity to help him though it.

    His words are basically:

I thought I found christ… (Just when I was starting to feel okay)
then a old lover of the sinful male sex calls me

    (You're on the phone
    I never wanna be alone)

(But My feeling's always have been something
    I couldn't hide, I can't confide)

A part of me wishes you'd go away ("I never want to see you again")
I wish you didn't make me feel the way you do. I wish I didn't make you feel that way either.

(I hate to have to take you home
Want you too much to say no, no)

I need to rise above this satanic behaviour so

    (Every night I tell myself
"I am the cosmos, I am the wind"
But that don't get you back again)

General CommentI think it's about a guy that wants to see someone again. Really wants to see them again. A lot.
