Blood red lips like soft intentions
Kiss my eyes, they're black and blue
Even if I shouldn't be here
I cannot help myself with you
There's something that I should have told you
We won't get a second chance
Just one night is all we'll spend
Together and it's killing me
She rescues me

this is my favourite snow patrol song. I love how it starts slow and then builds up... i dont know why but i feel i can relate to the whole only one night thing. It sucks only having one night with the person you want.

I love this song. Its so dark and spooky. But its got that real hint of romance in it. To me its about a guy whos had a chance with a girl. And then knows he can't have another chance with her, because of another guy. Or because the girl doesn't want to spend another night with him again. And yeah, Gary Lightbody is so hot! ;-)

it sounds like he is the one who is already taken... cause he's the one that knows this is the only time it can happen.

Sounds like an affair to me, that they have had to end due to another relationship. I agree with t1nkerb3ll and snowpatrolforever ... gary has the sexiest voice i have heard. EVER.

Black and blue...I'm guessing he's been bruised. Maybe punched because the girl he's been visiting is out of bounds. But as a sort of addiciton, he keeps comibg back for more. To me, the guitars throughout this song sound like the two are having quick, rough almost painful sex trying to get it done before anyone discovers them. As they kae love, both sink into a perpetually dark hole, which they both know they will never be able to crawl out of. Purely my interpratation but that's what Snow Patrol gives us. Freedom, to think and do with their perfect words what you will.

I love Snow Patrol but this song does not make sense to me....he loves her. He wants her. She supposedly "rescues" him (not sure what is meant by that), but he says they'll have just one night together. Makes no sense at all. Why would it be a one-night stand? That line about one night only does not flow with the rest of the lyrics. This band has SOOOOO many excellent tracks, though.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
