"500 UP" as written by Andrew Scott, Chris Murphy, Jay Ferguson and Patrick Pentland....
She comes running down like water
To splash around with the ones that taught her
She's just like that farmer's daughter
Everybody laughs at the joke

And we're laughing
She don't know what it means
She just knows that it's not what it seems

Everybody knows that she's going nowhere
Everybody always tells her how much they care
But all they really care about is growin' their hair
And gettin' it cut

And we're laughing
She don't know what it means
She just knows that it's not what it seems

She's running down much faster
Home base is around the corner
All she can hear is laughter
And that's all that's in store for her

Sliding downwards, you're the batter
That's what they say, 500 up on the ladder

She comes running down like water
She comes running down

Everybody knows that she's going nowhere
Everybody always tells her how much they care
But all they really care about is cuttin' their hair
And lettin' it grow

And we're laughing
She don't know what it means
She just knows that it's not what it seems

She's running down much faster
Home base is around the corner
All she can hear is laughter
And that's all that's in store for her

General CommentSeems to be about a girl who really can't measure up to her own expectations/hype, but nobody around her is willing to stop playing along with her self-image. They'll tear her up behind her back, but when she's disappointed with her failures they just keep faking encouragement. (I *think* that's what 'That's what they say/500 up on the ladder' is referring to - like she's low in the 'draft' now, but she'll get her chance eventually.) And she knows something is off, but nobody's being straight about it.
