"Anna Lee" as written by and Kevin James La/sherinian Brie....
Helpless child
They invite your hands to fill their needs
Will you be the same
Shameless smile
To steal from you the innocence that bleeds
Will they feel your pain

Trying to believe
The scars unseen
The tears wash clean
You don't wanna breathe the air you breathe
You don't know how you'll live a life alone

She keeps holding on
Holding on to you
Let her breathe the air
Don't wanna be alone where do you belong
Anna lee

Behind those eyes
The vivid scene
A lucid dream within
Questioned secrets are revealed
And everytime
You can't deny
The lines that trace your skin
Wounds that never heal

Trying to believe
The scars unseen
The tears wash clean
You don't wanna breathe the air you breathe
You don't know how you'll live a life alone

She keeps holding on
Holding on to you
Let her breathe the air
Don't wanna be alone where do you belong
Anna Lee

And now she's calling out a name
Can't keep on hiding all her pain
You feel the rain move in
As you begin
To turn and answer the call

Trying to believe
The scars unseen
The tears wash clean
You don't wanna breathe the air you breathe
You don't know how you'll live a life alone

She keeps holding on
Holding on to you
Let her breathe the air
Don't wanna be alone where do you belong
Anna Lee

General CommentIt's about child abuse. Anna Lee is a fictional character that James made after being deeply moved by stories about incest and child abuse he read.

General CommentI'm not really sure, but seems more like child abuse to me, like shand2001 is suggesting.
Either way, it's a beautiful song.

General CommentTruly a beautiful song musically. Incredibly moving. Sad, yet at the same time lovely lyrics.

Anna Lee has gone through a very difficult emotional, and maybe even physically scarring event. Likely having been abused, as has been said.

I love this song. You can't help but love its beauty. Even the sad lyrics have their own loveliness.

General CommentDomestic abuse, child abuse, the lyrics are pretty straightforward. Shand, do you have a link for that information?

And the stealing of innocence is mostly an unconscious event occurring when the child is realising she is not the centre of the world, the breaking free of her egocentric style. But the suicidal message is a bit ackward here...

I do agree that the song is moving me intensely, on all three aspects.

General CommentThe name Anna Lee is similar to Edgar Allen Poe's Annabel Lee. The Poem, taken literally, is about a man who falls in love with his childhood sweetheart but she suffers an early death. This could be consistent with the child abuse, i.e. Anna Lee's chance at a normal life and a normal love was ended early whereas Annabel Lee's life and love were ended early.
