"Pretty Baby" as written by and Vanessa Carlton....
You light me up and then I fall for you
You lay me down and then I call for you
Stumbling on reasons that are far and few
I'd let it all come down and then some for you

Pretty baby, don't you leave me
I have been saving smiles for you
Pretty baby, why can't you see
You're the one that I belong to?
I'll be the embrace that keeps you warm
For you're the sun that breaks the storm
I'll be alright and I'll sleep sound
As long as you keep coming 'round
Oh pretty baby

And I know things can't last forever
But there are lessons that you'll never learn
Oh just the scent of you it makes me hurt
So how's it you that makes me better?

Pretty baby, don't you leave me
I have been saving smiles for you
Pretty baby, why can't you see?
You're the one that I belong to
I'll be the embrace that keeps you warm
For you're the sun that breaks the storm
I'll be alright and I'll sleep sound
As long as you keep coming

Why can't you hold me and never let go?
When you touch me it is me that you own
Pretty baby
Oh the place that you hold in my heart
Would you break it apart again?
Oh pretty baby

Pretty baby, don't you leave me
I have been saving smiles for you
Pretty baby, why can't you see
You're the one that I belong to?
I'll be the embrace that keeps you warm
For you're the sun that breaks the storm
I'll be alright and I'll sleep sound
As long as you keep coming 'round

Pretty baby, why can't you see?
Pretty baby, don't you leave me
Pretty baby, why can't you see?
Pretty baby, don't you leave me
Pretty baby, my pretty baby
My pretty baby, don't you leave

General CommentJuvenile? Maybe. But what else is it? Beautiful. Of loving and wanting love. Everyone experiences this emotion and that is what I think keeps it from being "juvenile." It doesn't tailor itself to one specific age group. Lovely.

General CommentI think this song is about someone who is offering someone everything they have but the other person doesnt even seem to care or notice.
I really love this song. I love the lyrics and as always her voice is so beautiful and enchanting. Although I do miss the piano.

General CommentI agree with lilpoet, I love this song. I love the whole CD. A true Vanessa fan wouldn't tag her a title of "Teeny-bobber" I think that this song is beautifully sung and has good music to back it up. There is nothing wrong with it. I believe that the only people that would find something wrong with this song is the ones that don't know how to like someone, or go as far as love. And I'm not talking about realitives. Yes, we are all able to love... but if we hide it and "cut it down" because it may be "immature" to speak it... than... I feel sorry for whoever falls in love with you.

General CommentI think this song is about someone who is hopelessly in love with someone who doesn't give a damn. But the narrator doesn't see this! She seems to realize that he probably doesn't really love her later in the song. Maybe she's liked this person before, but it didn't work out (makes sense of the "would you break it apart, *AGAIN*"), but she still wants him. I dunno. I agree with this being one of her weaker songs, but its good in its own way (my favorite part is that interlude...her interludes are so cool).

General CommentI agree; this song alone could classify Vanessa as a (gasp!) teeny bopper. The lyrics are sweet, though. But dude, I miss the piano...

General CommentI disagree with you guys... this is 1 of the better songs in my opinion...
the song to me is talking about loving someone but something keeps them from sharing the same feelings for you in return. Also, the song indicates a fear of being alone and a desire to love and be loved
