Playing shows and writing songs could've been much more than you can get out of sitting around and being unproductive. There's a lot more than being like the other kids. At least I have something to do with myself. Did you ever notice how sometimes you take for granted what you need, like having friends and good times and never losing touch? But I guess you found something else to hold on to, like a girl or money or being bitter to the end. I'd like to think of the days when we didn't have to, and everything that ever meant some to you? You only thought you had to circle so far, and then come back down to sacrifice this one last thing.

General CommentThis song sounds like it is written to a friend who grew out of the friend who wrote it. It explains how the friendship was good when it was simple but it became complicated wih girls and money.

General Commentthe beging of this song remindes me of my buddy Danny "Playing shows and writing songs could've been much more than you can get out of sitting around and being unproductive. There's a lot more than being like the other kids. At least I have something to do with myself. " His dad doesnt really like him being in a bad and he wants him to be a hillbilly like him and it's like at least he's doing something productive and not getting in trouble other than that i really like this song i espically like the name cause i like a guy named david and dave does feel right !

General CommentThis song reminds me of my friend who used to be really close with me. I left for almost 2 months and when I came back we weren't so good friends anymore and he got pissed at me cuz I angered his gf and now we are just friends, when we used to be best friends. This line reminds me of him "Did you ever notice how sometimes you take for granted what you need, like having friends and good times and never losing touch? But I guess you found something else to hold on to, like a girl..." I'm not blaming anything on him, I'm just bummed that our friendship has faded away.

General CommentI always wondered something about this song...Dave Soloway used to be in Sefler, which is basically Saves The Day before they had the name. Since he did not play on the demo this was on (at least I dont think so), is this song about him leaving Sefler?

General CommentI think it's about a friend criticizing him for getting into music and leaving the town, but then Chris is saying that he's just trying to do what makes him happy. that's my take on it.

General CommentChris says in the insert of the "Ups and Downs" CD..."The story behind this song from our demo is funny. Before he joined Saves the Day in 1998, David Soloway has been in Sefler when I was a Sophmore and he was a Junior at our high school in Princeton, NJ. David had a girlfriend who was a Senior at Hopewll Valley High. When she graduated and left for college, David quit the band so that he could drive to upstate New York on weekends to spend time with her, rather than having to play shows, practice in a dingy basement, and drive the rest of us around town (he was the only one with a driver's license). I was furious at the time and I wrote this song about David picking a girl over our band. You should understand though that my bandmates and I were the outcasts at school and we really only had each other as friends, and when David left, there was one less person in our posse to protect us from being scorned at school. So, being sixteen and not having a proper sense of priority and lacking an awareness of reality, I was pissed and here's the song that came out because of it."
