I heard he sang a lullaby
I heard he sang it from his heart
When I found out, thought I would die
Because that lullaby was mine
I heard he sealed it with a kiss
He gently kissed her cherry lips
I found that so hard to believe
Because his kiss belonged to me

How could an angel break my heart?
Why didn't he catch my falling star?
I wish I didn't wish so hard
Maybe I wished our love apart
How could an angel break my heart?

I heard her face was white as rain
Soft as a rose that blooms in May
He keeps her picture in a frame
And when he sleeps he calls her name
I wonder if she makes him smile
The way he used to smile at me
I hope she doesn't make him laugh
Because his laugh belongs to me

How could an angel break my heart?
Why didn't he catch may falling star?
I wish I didn't wish so hard
Maybe I wished our love apart
How could an angel break my heart?

Oh, oh
Oh, yeah
Oh, my soul is dying, it's crying
I'm trying to understand
Please help me

How could an angel break my heart?
Why didn't he catch my falling star?
I wish I didn't wish so hard
Maybe I wished our love apart
How could an angel break my heart?

I love the version with Babyface singing in the background of the verse:

I heard her face was white as clay Soft as a rose that blooms in May He keeps her picture in a frame And when he sleeps he calls her name

It shows the two sides to the relationship and that maybe if the situation were different or if these two could talk, they'd still see that they still love each other even if they have to work to pick up the broken pieces.

This song makes me so sad. I can relate so much it hurts to listen sometimes.

It is "I heard her face was white as rain", and to quiet grey eyes, you are wrong too, it is "I wonder if she makes him smile". This is a gorgeous song, I think everyone can relate to this song. Well her side of the story anyway. This song makes me cry.

The song speaks for itself, she's involved with someone that was attached. "I wish I didn't wish so hard, maybe I wished our love apart," she's trying to get him to be only hers so much that it pushed him away. The dude's a playa, uses the same song and smiles for every girl.

This song holds such a strong sentiment to me. The man i love and thought i would be with forever and ever is getting married this weekend. this song i can relate to completely- i used to call him angel, i have been described to be a falling star, he is marrying a girl who has a face as white as snow and cherry lips.Go figure, i didnt tell him how i felt and now i am going to lose him.. but what a beautiful song... wow

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
