"Stigmata Martyr" as written by Daniel Gaston Ash, Kevin Haskins, David Jay and Peter John Murphy....
In a crucifixion ecstasy
Lying cross chequed in agony
Stigmata bleed continuously
Holes in head, hands, feet, and weep for me

Stigmata oh you sordid sight
Stigmata in your splintered plight
Look into your crimson orifice
In holy remembrance
In scarlet bliss

In nomine patri et filii et spiriti sanctum
In nomine patri et filii et spiriti sanctum
In nomine patri et filii et spiriti sanctum
In nomine patri et filii et spiriti sanctum
Father, son, and holy ghost
Stigmata martyr

    General CommentI adore this song.
In case anyone didn't know, theblanknote was right...
The part where Peter recites "In nomine patri et filii et spiriti sanctum" is actually Latin for "in name of Father and of Son and of Spirit Holy", which is recited when you're baptized.
For a while I had no idea what Peter was saying, and I just thought that part was a little weird.
God, this song is so fucking cool.

General Commentyeah meaning is pretty obvious, about someone getting stigmata... maybe their pointing out how it's painful for nothing? the yelling is pretty.. mmm makes it good.

General CommentNo one had commented on any Bauhaus lyrics. It's not hard to figure out what this song is about, and it sure does rule. It's also featured in one of the best 80's horror movies Night of the Demons.

General CommentIt's also in an early 80's vampire movie starring David Bowie called, "The Hunger" and the beginning is almost like a video for this song.
This has to be one of the most goth songs ever, right next to Bela Lugosi's Dead.

General CommentPersonally, I think the first line is "in a crucifixation ecstasy"...crucifixation=crucifix+fixation, which fits a song about stigmata well.

General Commentand now for a history lesson. the stigmata are the five wounds of christ. the two hands, the feet, the crown of thorns and the spear through his side. they are said to be inficted on the extremely holy. the most famous recpient is francis of asissi.

General CommentThis is my Bauhaus fav. I disagree, Helixi. With all my respects, the song that appeared in "The Hunger" was "Bela Lugosi´s Dead". Another piece of art.

General CommentPete Murphy went to a catholic school and this song is a way of exorcising the guilt that was installed into him during those years
