"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
If I could just keep my stupid mind together
Then my thoughts would cross the land for you to see
No one sees you on a vampire planet
No one sees you like I do
Seconds click in which I'm changed to dust
Whithered roots of knots and hairy rust
No one sees you on a vampire planet
No one sees you like I do
I'm so sick of goodbyes, goodbyes
I'm so sick of goodbyes, goodbyes goodbyes
The night comes crawling in on all fours
Sucking up my dreams through the floor
I'm so sick
I'm so sick
Of goodbyes
I'm so sick of goodbyes, goodbyes
I'm so sick of goodbyes, goodbyes
I'm so sick, so sick, so sick of goodbyes, goodbyes
So... I'm so sick
Then my thoughts would cross the land for you to see
No one sees you on a vampire planet
No one sees you like I do
Seconds click in which I'm changed to dust
Whithered roots of knots and hairy rust
No one sees you on a vampire planet
No one sees you like I do
I'm so sick of goodbyes, goodbyes
I'm so sick of goodbyes, goodbyes goodbyes
The night comes crawling in on all fours
Sucking up my dreams through the floor
I'm so sick
I'm so sick
Of goodbyes
I'm so sick of goodbyes, goodbyes
I'm so sick of goodbyes, goodbyes
I'm so sick, so sick, so sick of goodbyes, goodbyes
So... I'm so sick

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
Just A Little Lovin'

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
Plastic Bag

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
Fay, you can't just come in and say the three people in front of you have no concept of what the song is about and not explain the song. Not to mention two of those three people weren't even talking about the meaning of the song. I'd bash you for being so big headed but I'll refrain, I think that's enough.
I'd personally like to know what this song is about.
This song is also performed by Cracker on their album Kerosene Hat.
it's part of Laurel Canyon soundtrack. cool movie. great song.
You three have no concept of what this song is about.
What is it about?
I don't either..can someone give me some insight?
to me, it seems to be about a guy who can't get his thoughts straight, and always regrets it. at the end of the day he feels like crap because he didn't accomplish/say any of the stuff he wanted to accomplish/say (The night comes crawling in on all fours / Sucking up my dreams through the floor)... i'm pretty sure that it's just about a guy having difficulty talking to a girl he likes (which is why he goes "no one sees you like i do.)
Sounds like a break up to me in which the singer cannot get his thoughts straight on why it ended (and he wishes he could truly tell the other how he feels). The lyrics about the seconds clicking, turning to dust and the night sucking up his dreams...these are all feelings one can go through when a relationship ends. Being alone at night is the worst...you stay up late thinking about it over and over but not in a productive way - the way that robs you of sleep/dreams.
He doesn't want to say goodbye, he's sick of it. And it's almost making him sick - particularly this time when he feels so strongly about this other person.
As for the vampire planet reference, I'm not sure what that means. I feel knowing that might change my perspective of the song. I think of a planet (other than Earth) as a lonely place, so perhaps she feeds off of a relationship then moves on to the next one, so she's always making herself end up alone until the next one. Perhaps the singer is helplessly in love with such a person, and he thinks he can see past that exterior actions and into her heart, while full well knowing that she'll probably not change her ways?
I used to listen to this song pre-9/11 and thought nothing of it, really. But post-9/11, it made a little more sense.. er, I guess I shouldn't say that. It related a little more towards me.
"Seconds click in which I'm changed to dust."
That really hit home for me when I was watching all the men and women covered in ashes on TV. And then of chorus, "I'm so sick of goodbyes." Which is pretty obvious.
