"We've Got Tonight" as written by and Bob Seger....
I know it's late, I know you're weary
I know your plans don't include me
Still here we are, both of us lonely
Longing for shelter from all that we see
Why should we worry, no one will care girl
Look at the stars so far away
We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow?
We've got tonight babe
Why don't you stay?

Deep in my soul I've been so lonely
All of my hopes fading away
I've longed for love like everyone else does
I know I'll keep searching even after today
So there it is girl, I've said it all now
And here we are babe, what do you say?
We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow?
We've got tonight babe
Why don't you stay?

I know it's late, I know you're weary
I know your plans don't include me
Still here we are, both of us lonely
Both of us lonely

We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow?
Let's make it last, let's find a way
Turn out the light, come take my hand now
We've got tonight babe
Why don't you stay?
Why don't you stay?

General CommentThis is a song about a couple who enjoy "tonight" -- tonight being the now or perhaps, the "romantic" stage of a relationship. Limerence is another term for it. They realize things may/may not work out probably because of specific circumstances -- in this case, I think they're both weary re love and are, in essence, just winging it ("plans don't include me"). However, they enjoy each other's company and are willing to enjoy tonight and deal with "tomorrow" another day. "Tomorrow" can also represent the phase of a relationship when the work starts -- when you start to see your partner's flaws aka "the thrill is gone" stage.

I like this and the Bob Seger version equally the same. Great song.

My InterpretationNo comments on this so far?

I didn't even know this was a Kenny Rogers song, as I've always heard it on the live Bob Seger Album "Nine Tonight."

I think the song is about a couple who has decided to go their separate ways (at least she has, as he says, "I know your plans don't include me." However, there are still mutual feelings of affection between them. While they might not have a future together, they can still share what they have between them now, tonight, regardless of what the future has in store. Hence, "We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow?"

General CommentI always thought this song was about a long distance relationship. He's interested in making things work out despite the distance, but she is not. So he decides to make the best of the time he has with her.
