Who's that kid in the back of the room?
Who's that kid in the back of the room?
He's setting all his papers on fire
He's setting all his papers on fire
Where did he get that crazy smile?
Where did he get that crazy smile?
We all think he's really weird
We all think he's really weird
We never talk to him
He never looks quite right
He laughs at us
We just beat him up
What he sees escapes our sight

We never see him with the girls
We never see him with the girls
He's talking to himself again
He's talking to himself again
Why doesn't he want tons of friends?
Why doesn't he want tons of friends?
Says he's bored when we hang around
Says he's bored when we hang around

We never talk to him
He never looks quite right
He laughs at us
We just beat him up
What he sees escapes our sight

We're all planning our careers
We're all planning our careers
We're all planning our careers
He says we're growing old...

General CommentI think it's how Jello thought the jocks saw punks.

General Commentthe song is about how, jocks and the like, through their ignorance react to something different to them so stupidly. 'why doesnt he wants tons of friends?.. we all think hes really weird' and also how this guy is taking the piss out of them, but they dont even realise

General Commentbrilliant song-incredibly honest as to how the norm ignorantly look at outsiders. the kid in the song reminds me of myself so much

General Commentthis song is about an outcast who gets picked on by the popular kids because the outcast knows more than the popular kids and because the outcast doesn't want to do what they do. this song is me. i'm always getting picked on at school because i don't want to do what everyone is doing.

General CommentI love this song. It reminds me of this kid at my high school. He's a year older than me, but i'm always seeing him alone at assemblies and carpool with this Misfits backpack (which is pretty incredible for catholic school). I asked my sister (who's in his grade) who he was today and I was describing him and she said "Oh, you mean Greg! He's so weird, he's always off by himself."

But I bet he's smarter than most of those kids...

General CommentI love this song for the fact that its attacking the idea that to be considered normal or cool in society you must stay within its parameters of its expectations... you must act in a certain way, dress a certain way, have certain friends, be entertained a certain way, to have certain goals and aspirations... and if you dont do what is expected of you socially, you are ostracized regardless of whether society or the outcast is right.

My Opinionthe point the song is making is that the kid is different for being content, he doesn't need "tons of friends" to feel good about himself and sees his piers planning their lives as a conscious move closer to the end of it. as for everyone here 'being that kid' i doubt that somebody with that level of INSIGHT would be trying to impress a bunch of strangers by telling them how un-conventional they are.
