Should I fall out of love, my fire in the light
To chase a feather in the wind
Within the glow that weaves a cloak of delight
There moves a thread that has no end

For many hours and days that pass ever soon
The tides have caused the flame to dim
At last the arm is straight, the hand to the loom
Is this to end or just begin?

All of my love, all of my love
All of my love to you, oh

All of my love, all of my love, oh
All of my love to you

The cup is raised, the toast is made yet again
One voice is clear above the din
Proud Arianne one word, my will to sustain
For me, the cloth once more to spin, oh

All of my love, all of my love, oh
All of my love to you

All of my love, all of my love, yes
All of my love to you

Yours is the cloth, mine is the hand that sews time
His is the force that lies within
Ours is the fire, all the warmth we can find
He is a feather in the wind, oh

All of my love, all of my love, oh
All of my love to you

All of my love, ooh yes, all of my love to you now
All of my love, all of my love
All of my love, love, sometimes, sometimes

Sometimes, sometimes, oh love
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Ooh yeah, it's all my love

All of my love, all of my love, to you now

All of my love, all of my love
All of my love to, to you, you, you, yeah
I get a little bit lonely

First four lines: He is grieving his sons death, he wants to forget, but can't at the same time. His son is perhaps the feather in the wind: a memory that seems close, he chases his spirit, but he knows he is dead. Over time, the thread will weave and patch the anguish. The thread represents time itself (this is evident in the last paragraph/stanza). The glow is his undying, but perhaps faltering spirit and love. A fire in light appears weaker.

Second four lines: Time has passed, he is tired and worn. He again questions his love. His arm is straight and ready to weave. Is he really ready to move on?

Chorus: he is crying out to give his love to his son and/or wife...

The cup is raised part: Others give him will to sustain (His wife as somebody else suggested), the healing has begun.

Final lines: His wife provides the cloth that he will repair, then they can be whole again. His son is the driving force that lies within. Together, son, father and mother, must find and use all of their warmth and love (fire) as one cannot live in pain forever. His son is a feather in the wind, a distant memory...

This song could mean anything to anybody, it could be about the loss of a partner or whatever is special to you, make of what I said as you will. Please reply, I want to hear what other people think, I created an account just for this song and this is my first post.

This is such a sad song. Robert Plant's 5 year old son, Karac, died because of a stomach virus, and he wrote this song because of that.

To Retribution : what the fuck is wrong with you? Aren't there any mods doing their job here? Anyone can feel free to post any bit of racial nonesense on here?

Anyway, I've got a pretty good explanation for the Ariane riddle (yes, it's Ariane, not Aryan, duuuuuuh !). The answer lies in the Greek mythology. Here goes : there was this half human half bull creature called the Minotaur that was emprisoned in a maze. Theseus went into the maze to kill the evil Minotaur, and that he achieved. But in order to get back out of the maze, he was helped by one of Minos's (king of Crete) daughters, Ariane. She gave him a ball of thread that theseus unrolled as he searched for the Minotaur, so that he could retrace his path backwards along the thread and thus get out of the maze. There is a french expression, the literal translation of which is 'Ariane's thread', refering to the main concept or idea that provides the solution to a complicated problem. This is therefore how I read the lines 'Proud Ariane one word, my will to sustain - For me, the cloth once more to spin', which are another example of Plant's genius writing, making allmost subliminal connections between verses. The 'Ariane thread' (i.e. the key) to finding an answer to the question rased in the beginning of the song (Should I fall out of love, my fire in the light To chase a feather in the wind?) is to sustain his will, to keep on fighting and making the effort, and it's up to him spin the cloth once again, that is to say to carry the person he's talking to (maureen?) forward, as in the last part of the song, were his is the hand that sews time. Ariane's thread --> cloth --> sewing : brilliant writing!

Well, the first lines, "Should I fall out of love...chase a feather..." To me, I thought this was talking about him being married, and then he found someone else, but it'd be hard, much like chasing a feather blowing with the wind is. Or, at least it is to me.

I used to think that this song was about Robert Plant or any of the band members for that matter, and their groupies and how they needed to choose between their true loves or just a short fling. At the beginning when he says "should i fall out of love, my fire in the light to chase a feather in the wind" that part definately made me think it was about choosing between love or groupies. But now that i hear it is about his dead son i definately dont think its about groupies anymore.

One of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs, about his son that died, as posted in pretty much all the previous messages. So sad, but a really nice song!

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
