Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
This started off so well but things just fall apart
I came with innocence and left without a heart
I know you said you cared
Tonight I'm gone
Goodbye
I'm sitting on the floor, I'm feeling really sick
I won't turn on the lights, it's better in the dark
I wish I could stay here
If I did then I'd cry and disappear
I'm never coming back, I'm never coming back
I'm never coming back, I'm never coming back
I'm strong enough to leave and never turn around
All that I'm leaving here is all that I'm not now
You'll stay, I'll leave and you'll smile
I'll grow as I go and leave this all behind
I wave goodbye but not say goodbye
I've said all that I want to say

I can't find information about this band ANYWHERE. My guess is it's some kid sat up in her/his room spewing out a bunch of angst ridden, self pittying lyrics. Still I may be wrong so if anyone knows where to hear a sample of this stuff, bring it on.
oh my god! this is such a great song. You can so connect to it. It reminds me of someone who wants to commit suicide it is kinda sad!!!
Wow...I haven't heard this song..but the lyrics are great! I see what you mean about suicide, but it reminds me so much of my relationship with my best friend. I finally just said enough and walked away a few months ago...and he just smiled...like he thought that I would be back. I recently made things right with him, but I know that I never want things to be the same and I have grown through it. I'll have to listen to it too to see if it sounds good...cause I really like the lyrics.
