General CommentThis is one of Zeppelins greatest songs. The song is simply asking what would happen without friends, and "The greatest thing you ever can do now,
Is trade a smile with someone who's blue now," is self explanatory;in my opinion, this is line which pushes this song above par.

General CommentThis is a great song....It's very true too.....It's all about Karma.....If you make a point of smiling to others and giving a helping hand when you can, there is a good chance someone will be there to give you a hand up when you need it most.....It's about trying to be concious of more than just yourself and your immediate surroundings.....It's not always easy, but try to notice when there is something you can do for those around you...Try to be a freind to all, and you will never have a lonely day......"So anytime somebody needs you, don't let them down, although it grieves you, Some day you'll need someone like they do, looking for what you knew"....That says it all.....;)

General Commentanother underrated Zep song. I sometimes wonder if people are too wrapped up in Stairway to Heaven to appreciate some of their peices, like this one.

General Comment^Yep. Always the case with legendary rock bands: everyone knows the popular shit, not the real gems.

Anyway, this is one of the most beautiful, touching rock songs ever written. Smile at someone who's blue ... and how can they call Led Zep Satanists with lyrics like that?

A great song ... just great.

the big line here ' you got love you aint lonely'- if you practice love you wont be lonely. brilliant.
y'know, i'm not quite sure that's exactly it...
when i see that line, i think like this:
someone's telling him, look, you've got love, you're not lonely, don't throw that away. and he did. now? he's lookin for what he knew, or had.

and i agree w/ most of the other comments here..good song

General CommentAnother gem from Zeppelin III. The lyrics to this song are plain enough for all to see the meaning. It's a great message, and very well vocalized by Plant. But yes, the rhythm and chord progressions are what make this song a big favourite with me. I just love the way it builds and builds (the eastern influence really comes out in the Page/Plant No Quarter/Unledded live version)! Believe it or not, this song originally had a definite ending and did NOT fade off into that airplane-like guitar drone. After the recording session, one of the assistants to the recording engineer ACCIDENTLY deleted the ending... and when he realized what he'd done, he suddenly ran out of the studio! (This is well documented and is mentioned in many books about Zeppelin). Page THEN decided to mask in the guitar drone ending to save the rest of the track... a good segway to Celebration Day.

General CommentThis song is almost written like a warning. The music paints kind of a dark, winding imagery, while the lyrics speak of how important it is to keep true to your word and not burn bridges. It reminds me that if someone is dishonest and disloyal as a young man, they will be very alone and empty at the end of it all. So, if you're fortunate enough to have someone in your life, a friend, then appreciate the love that you have. One day you may find yourself without it...
