Open your eyes I see
Your eyes are open
Wear no disguise for me
Come into the open

When it's cold outside
Am I here in vain?
Hold on to the night
There will be no shame

Always, I want to be with you
And make believe with you
And live in harmony, harmony oh love

Melting the ice for me
Jump into the ocean
Hold back the tide I see
Your love in motion

When it's cold outside
Am I here in vain?
Hold on to the night
There will be no shame

Always, I want to be with you
And make believe with you
And live in harmony, harmony oh love

This song is basically about robot unicorns attacking stars so they can live in harmony with the dolphins. Obviously.

What this song means to me:

Open your eyes I see Your eyes are open Wear no disguise for me Come into the open

--The eyes symbolize waking up from a dream, and that when you wake up you can go out and chase your dreams.

When it's cold outside Am I here in vain? Hold on to the night There will be no shame

--There is no shame in chasing your dreams, even though in the end you will fail.

Always, I wanna be with you And make believe with you And live in harmony, harmony oh love

--Despite your impending doom, the singer still wants to make all your dreams come true.

Melting the ice for me Jump into the ocean Hold back the tide I see Your love in motion

--All you have to do is follow your heart, no matter what lies ahead, even if a fiery death awaits you!.

When it's cold outside Am I here in vain? Hold on to the night There will be no shame

--Even though you may have failed this time, all you have to do is press Z to chase your dreams again.

This poem is referring to the relationship between the sun and the moon. The male in the music video is the sun, as you can tell by his golden helmet. The woman in the video is the moon.

"When it's cold outside, Am I here in vain? Hold on to the night. There will be no shame," said the sun. He is telling the moon to hang on, until the morning when the sun can come out.

"Melting the ice for me. Jump into the ocean. Hold back the tide I see. Your love in motion." This verse refers to the moon's affect on the tides.

The "harmony, harmony, harmony" refers to when the sun and moon together in a solar eclipse.

The winter character in the video refers to the increased distance between the sun and moon during the winter because of the rotation of the earth.

Am I really the first one to think this song has something to do with being in the closet?

"am i here in vain....there will be no shame"

"always i wanna be with you and make believe with you and live in harmony harmony"

Kinda sounds like the front many try to put up because society would pressure them to be a certain way when they feel differently....

Maybe I'm off base here, but one things for sure, RobotUnicornAttack rocks!

No, you aren't alone redhottoady... This song is definitely about a robot unicorn's fear of coming out of the closet, and his special dolphin friends' encouragement to always be true to oneself. (Good advice no matter your orientation!) No seriously, this is probably one of the gayest songs ever produced.

The rainbows and wind chimes in the game merely accentuate that fact.

    Song Meaning

No, no no, the problem is that there are some mistakes in the lyrics. They should be

Hold on, to "the Knight" There will be no Shane

The song is clearly about a boy and his dog, who he calls "the Knight". The dog is dying because Shane, a boy who has bullied the main character and his dog for years, has harmed the dog badly.

Think about it. It all makes sense now, doesn't it?

    Song Meaning

Open your eyes I see Your eyes are open Wear no disguise for me Come into the open

--You are a prostitute, on the streets, you open your eyes and see that this is not what your meant to do. Don't wear that prostitute disguise, be yourself with me.

When it's cold outside Am I here in vain? Hold on to the night There will be no shame

--When it's cold outside on the streets, I'll be here for you, make this your last night of prostitution, and then you can look back into the past without shame, because you're the one who gave up prostitution.

Always, I wanna be with you And make believe with you And live in harmony, harmony oh love

-- I wanna be with you, I don't care about your past, we can live peacefully, you don't have to hear people honking at you.

Melting the ice for me Jump into the ocean Hold back the tide I see Your love in motion

--You told me about your prostitution right off the bat, in case I would care, but I don't. So search for something better to do with your life, there is an ocean of opportunities. Don't be afraid to love, I know you're capable of doing it.

When it's cold outside Am I here in vain? Hold on to the night There will be no shame

--When it's cold outside on the streets, I'll be here for you, make this your last night of prostitution, and then you can look back into the past without shame, because you're the one who gave up prostitution.

THAT'S the meaning of the song.

    My Interpretation

simple this is a male, singing to his boyfriend to come out of the closet.

open your eyes, i see, your eyes are open wear no diguise, for me, come into the open

digiuse, as in pretending to be someone your not, exit it. so this loosely translates, i love you so please come out of the closet.

When it's cold outside Am I here in vain? Hold on to the night There will be no shame

when if your scared, don't worry, i'll protect you, love me as you do at night, nobody will care.

Always, I wanna be with you And make believe with you And live in harmony, harmony oh love

i love you but only sometimes, i want to all the time

Melting the ice for me Jump into the ocean Hold back the tide I see Your love in motion

you keep me happy, melt the ice in my heart, but you scurry away and return later. please let i be always.

there you go, what do you think?

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
