I try to discover
A little something to make me sweeter
Oh baby refrain from breaking my heart
I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
That you gimme no reason
Why you make-a-me work so hard

That you gimme no
That you gimme no
That you gimme no
That you gimme no

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby, please, give a little respect to me

And if I should falter
Would you open you arms out to me?
We can make love not war
And live at peace with our hearts
I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
What religion or reason
Could drive a man to forsake his lover?

Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby, please, give a little respect to me

I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
That you gimme no reason
You know you make-a-me work so hard

That you gimme no
That you gimme no
That you gimme no
That you gimme no

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby, please, give a little respect to me

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby, please, give a little respect to me

I love both versions. The lyrics are great and almost everoyne in this world can relate to it, because usually in relationships there's someone who gives everything, and someone who just takes it without corresponding in a proper way.

This song is equipped with beats, enough to make you kick, but this really makes me sad, it has this drama....makes me wanna cry. Erasure did a great act on this song.

the line: "What religion or reason Could drive a man to forsake his lover" indicates that the artist is homosexual. The artist is a male and from the rest of the lyrics it would seem that HE is the forsaken one.

The Wheatus guy sounds like a prick and does not have the bass neccesary to pull this one off.

Ironically, if they did indeed, they might have a better chance of pulling it off. :-D

Just kidding. Song is amazing, Wheatus sucks. Er, blows. Erm, is bad.

From the 30 seconds I heard of the Wheatus version on Amazon, it doesn't sound bad at all. But the original is one of best vocals from all the 80s. It's challenging to sing and even more so when sung with such feeling and power as Erasure did.

WELL ONE NIGHT WHEN I WAS HANGING OUT WITH THE LOVE OF MY LIFE, HE WAS DRUNK AND WE TAPED THE CONCERT OF ERASURE .HE WOULD JUST PLAY THE FIRST VERSE OF THIS SONG OVER AND OVER FOR 2 HOURS. SEE WE HAD THIS WEIRD RELATIONSHIP WHERE IT SEEMED HE WAS SCARED OFA DEEP RELATIONSHIP SO I FELT HE COMMUNICATED THROUGH SONG LYRICS SINCE IT WAS SAFE.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
