"I'm Not Scared" as written by Ashanti S. Douglas, Andre S. Parker and Irving Domingo Lorenzo....
Your life's a mystery, mine is an open book
If I could read your mind, I think I'd take a look
I don't care
Baby, I'm not scared

What have you got to fight? What do you need to prove?
You're always telling lies, and that's the only truth
I don't care
Baby, I'm not scared

Tonight the streets are full of actors
I don't know why
Oh, take these dogs away from me
Before they, they bite

What have you got to say of shadows in your past?
I thought that, if you paid, you'd keep them off our backs
But I don't care
Baby, I'm not scared

What have you got to hide? Who will it compromise?
Where do we have to be, so I can laugh and you'll be free?
I'd go anywhere
Baby, I don't care
I'm not scared
I don't care
Baby, I'm not scared

Tonight the streets are full of actors
I don't know why
Oh, take these dogs away from me
Before they, they bite
Tonight I fought and made my mind up
I know it's right
I know these dogs still snap around us
But I can, I can fight

If I was you, if I was you
I wouldn't treat me the way you do
If I was you, if I was you
I wouldn't treat me the way you do - you
If I was you, if I was you
I wouldn't treat me the way you do
If I was you, if I was you
I wouldn't treat me the way you do - you

I'm not scared
Baby, I don't care
I'd go anywhere
Baby, I'm not scared
I'm not scared
Oh, I'm not scared

General CommentAlthough this was written for and recorded by Eighth Wonder (poncy version in my opinion) PSB did a 7 or 8 minute length version for the album. The result, with strings, soldiers shouting and laser blasts is one of the best things you can hear in stereo on the ol' Walkman.

General CommentI really love this song! Both the Eight Wonder version and the PSB's one ...
And I'm especially fond of the idea of the dark past that may scare many others away - but the protagonist here is ready to fight.
Sometimes this can be a good fight - if you're there for someone to help them overcome their demons, help them redefine things...

But of course, sometimes this can be disasterous - I think that certain people tend to fall for 'danger&darkness' - and put up with bad or abusive behavious, because they see themselves as 'the only one who understands him/her...' and will 'save' their lover.. . but are not actually attracted to the lover him/herself - but to the idea of the salvation...a sureshot scenario for a miserable life.

I like how the song can refer to any of these situations..or both ;)

General CommentThe PSB version is definitely superior and is a great mix. The one issue i have with the song which kind of ruins it for me is the "if I was you.." line. Because it shouldve been "if I WERE you". I can't for one minute think Neil didn't know the difference, so I can only assume it was a deliberate choice?
