"Cut" as written by and Paul C. Williams....
If only you'd never speak to me
The way that you do
If only you'd never speak like that
It's like listening to
A breaking heart
A falling sky

Fire go out and friendship die
I wish you felt the way that I still do
If only you'd never look at me
The way that you do
If only you'd never look like that
When I look at you
I see face like stone
Eyes of ice

Mouth so sweetly telling lies
I wish you felt the way that I still do
The way that I still do
But you don't
You don't feel anymore
You don't care anymore
It's all gone

If only you'd never pull from me
The way that you do
If only you'd never pull like that
When I'm with you

I feel hopeless hands helplessly
Pulling you back close to me
I wish you felt the way that I still do
The way that I still do

If only you'd ever speak to me
The way you once did
Look at me the way you once did
Pull to me the way you once did

But you don't
You don't feel anymore
You don't care anymore
It's all gone
It's all gone

General CommentHmm, I think this song is more about a friendship failing. Like two people were good friends, and one day, one of them just kinda stopped talking to the other, or was just really mean. The other person is wondering what on earth went wrong.

Maybe it's a relationship. I'm not quite sure. But yeah, this song defintely has an element of hate in it, and also loneliness.

Song MeaningI agree with Toaster Oven, it's not necessarily about a relationship, could just aswell be about a friendship. Something happened today with one of my friends which got my back up. From my view, she chose another friend over me, even though I had been there for her no matter what but the other friend has from the start, treated her like sh*t. I felt a bit betrayed but mostly it was how alone I felt without her being there to support me.

It's as if the narrator has finally decided to not put up with anymore sh*t from this person, and even if they do hold this person in admiration, they have to become familiar with the fact that this person doesn't seem to care like they used to and should really let go. "Cut" them out of their life.

I do think Disintergration is an amazing album, one of my faves, if not THE favourite. But Wish cannot be faulted. Some very intense emotions experienced in some very intense songs.

    ...that's just SOOOO cool.
The vocals (like all Cure songs) are just so good. Robert Smith can really wail.

General CommentI wouldn't say it was the best off Wish... although it's certainly one *of* the best. I'm surprised too that more people haven't commented. I think Wish is actually one of their better albums, in spite of the higher ratings Disintegration and Pornography usually get.

The lyrics here are really self-explanatory. A relationship that's gone stale. I'd ramble on about the significance of using ice, stone and fire that's gone out to describe the coldness between them, but any idiot's capable of noticing that and I'm not sure it would make any sense anyway.

General CommentThis is one of the most intense, fast, powerful songs you will ever hear! I wish they would bring out the Live version that was recorded in Michgan (and was only avail on Laserdisk way back when!) Unbelievable guitars on this song!

General Commenti agree with mortonium. this is clearly the best song off wish. i dont need to repeat the fast that this is a very intense and highly emotional song. listening to robert's vocals really puts me into the song. the lyrics are wonderful, and very well written.
