"Catch" as written by Robert James Smith, Simon Gallup, Porl Thompson, Laurence Andrew Tolhurst and Boris Williams....
One, two
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo huh
Yeah I know who you remind me of
A girl I think I used to know
Yeah I'd see her when the days got colder
On those days when it felt like snow

You know I even think that she stared like you
She used to just stand there and stare
And roll her eyes right up to heaven
And make like I just wasn't there

And she used to fall down a lot
That girl was always falling
Again and again
And I used to sometimes try to catch her
But never even caught her name

And sometimes we would spend the night
Just rolling about on the floor (just rolling about on the floor)
And I remember even though it felt soft at the time
I always used to wake up sore

You know I even think that she smiled like you
She used to just stand there and smile
And her eyes would go all sorts of far away
And stay like that for quite a while

And I remember she used to fall down a lot
That girl was always falling
Again and again
And I used to sometimes try to catch her
But never even caught her name

Yes, I sometimes even tried to catch her
But never even caught her name

General CommentThis is what Smith says about Catch:

""In 1970, aged 10, I fell off my bike and suffered quite severe concussion; sporadically, over the following 2 years, I suffered fleeting but intense daytime hallucinations of a girl I called 'Bunny'. In 1972 I flew for the first time; a few minutes after take-off the plane hit really bad turbulence and I suffered a very violent attack of nausea and vomiting, along with an incredibly severe headache; after this event my 'Bunny' visits stopped... In 1984 in nyc jfk airport whilst waiting to pass through immigration I met a girl who was the spitting image of 'Bunny'; her 'real' name was Anna; we talked very briefly... "Catch" is about this chance encounter..."

I love The Cure, but this is not one their better songs - IMO

General CommentI agree with xod. I always felt this was an endearing song about a girl with a seizure disorder. I'm suprised more people haven't interpretted it this way. It's a really poetic description of what are probably either abscence seizrues or partial complex seizures.

General CommentI think it's about a girl with epilepsy. Then everything is explained except "But never even caught her name", which I chalk up to poetic license.

General Commentthis song's so terribly sad. the lyrics make it. seems like they kept the song so mellow for good reason.

General CommentI think this song isn't actually about comparing a past love to a current love, i think it is all about one person, "you" and "the girl" are the same person. i think it is a love song, possibly about fond memories from his relationship with this person. it is just too specific to be about two people.
