"Splintered in Her Head" as written by Robert James Smith, Laurence Andrew Tolhurst and Simon Gallup....
Shape is still asleep with toys
As tall as men the pictures in hallway turning inside
Whispers unseen jumping against the sky
Slipping away, he looks for the last time

General Comment~for those who don't know,
    this is connected lyrically to
    'charlotte sometimes' and
    'the empty world'.
lyrics for all three come from
    penelope farmers book
    'charlotte sometimes'. good book!

General Commenttatterblossom is right - from what I've read. Also, Smith said this about laying down the music for Splitered:

"'Splintered in Her Head,' was pieced together: The drums were put down, then we sat and thought about what to put on top. Simon tried bass parts until bass and drums meshed, then I tried some guitar over that.... we are primarily concentrating on the atmosphere we want to create-and then, of course, Lol usually thinks of a title."

    cool song

General CommentThis song is deeply disturbing. This was the B-side of "Charlotte Sometimes" and certainly has the gloomy day/paranoid night feel. Not unlike Faith and Pornography as albums. The bizarre metallic vocals still scare me. They played this live a few times on the Pornography tour...
