"Plastic Passion" as written by Robert James Smith, Laurence Andrew Tolhurst and Michael Stephen Dempsey....
Plastic passion is a hard to handle
Plastic passion is a sold out scandal
Oh it's a plastic passion
It's a plastic passion

Plastic passion is the ladies lover
Plastic passion is the marble mother
Oh it's a plastic passion
It's a plastic passion

Plastic passion is a diamond delight
Plastic passion is the nadir of night
Oh it's a plastic passion
It's a plastic passion
It's a plastic passion

Plastic passion is a Hyacinthe heart
Plastic passion is a transparent tart
Oh it's a plastic passion
It's a plastic passion

Plastic passion is a gold guarantee
The plastic passion is murdering me
Oh it's a plastic passion
It's a plastic passion
It's a plastic passion

General Commenti'm sure i'm going to sound incredibly shallow, but does anyone else get the whole "vibrator vibe" from this song?

General CommentI don't think it's about vibrators, although that would be awesome.

I've always thought it was about petty love that has no real significance. Thus the name.

Either way, i think it may very well be my favorite Cure song, as weird as that is.

General CommentIt's not about a vibrator, although that may say a lot about people's sex life in general. It's what the other guy said: about not feeling the love you're giving. The "transparaent tart" (a tart is a hooker or sleazy woman) is one reference to that. - Famous Amos

General CommentAccording to Robert, the B-side, Plastic Passion, was "demoed in 1978 for Hansa, and it was a kind of weird Roxy Music pastiche. By the time we recorded it again we'd played it live a few times, doubled the tempo, and gone frantic!Dempsey introduced Lol to this horrible jerky XTC type rhythm, asked him to play it, and Lol then tried it on pretty much every song we did for the next year! That was one of the reasons why Michael had to go..."
